During my years as Creative Director for the UK’s Urbis Centre for Urban Culture, I had many great opportunities to change the city in big, small, temporary and permanent ways. Of them all, Urban Oasis remains one of my favourite projects.
Working with the Office for Subversive Architecture (Berlin/London), Urban Oasis was a quick hit piece of urban revitilisation. Working with an abandoned lot in central Manchester and little more than a few rolls of grass turf, lumber, paint and some repurposed materials, the lot was transformed in one day into a temporary Urban Oasis. Why the bar? Well, it is Manchester after all…
