Boston Urban Lab

Boston University Laboratory for Creative Urban Response

As visiting professor at University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM), I ran a workshop with a simple brief:

Use the city’s existing infrastructure as source material. Don’t design for the city; design with the city.

Workshop participants were asked to augment or add to what was already there, viewing the city as a platform for creative interaction. A series of interventions sprung up around Montreal, each one a brief moment of change in the daily life of the city, bringing suggestions for change and smiles to those who encountered the work. A slideshow of boards created to communicate the ideas are above. To see the images on flickr, go here.
